I am a Unix Systems Administrator by trade and have designed, installed, and administered Solaris, BSD, Linux and HP-UX environments in the last 8 years. I enjoy working in high presured environments with mission critical systems. I have worked on various opensource and commercial projects over this period of time.
My hobbies are developing automation tools, perl/php programming, watching sports, visiting friends and family, surfing the net and keeping up with the latest trends in Information Technology.
I am currently (happily) employed by Freezone Internet as a Senior UNIX Systems Administrator

UNIX:
Modern operating system carefully crafted to prevent administrators from shooting themselves in the foot [1].
[1] Interestingly, most utilities have a command line option which will cause the system to rip the user's legs off and beat them to death with the soggy ends. This is often the default behaviour. |

Job change |
|
I recently started working for Freezone Internet as a UNIX Systems Administrator along with my lecturer who taught me Sun Solaris Administration at Bickenhall College of Computing.
It's a real fun job where I work on multi platform UNIX operating systems.
I dont have as much free time on my hands to update the site regularly, when I do get a chance i'll update where necesary. |

Upgrade |
|
The server has been upgraded to Apache/2.0.54 and PHP/5.0.4. I've accidently deleted my backup of the project directory and had to restore everything from previous backups. Some information might be outdated because of this.
I am busy analyzing what can be saved from the HDD, as soon as I can establish what I can restore, all functionality should be restored fully.
* I've managed to get *some* of the project data back using lazarus and unrm from the coroners toolkit, the only data i couldn't get back is the administration panel files wich isn't a big issue - I can always redo it.
Any updates will be posted here. |

FreeBSD 6 RELENG_6 branch has been created |
|
| FreeBSD's Ken Smith says that as part of the FreeBSD-6.0 Release Cycle the RELENG_6 branch tag has just been created in the CVS repository. In preparation for the release some places in the tree now say that this branch is -STABLE but there is still work to do before this branch will be ready for release.
Furthermore, Robert Watson informs us that a variety of debugging features are still enabled by default in RELENG_6, including INVARINTS, WITNESS, and user space malloc debugging. |
